[x] Writer. Artist. Non-conformist.
[x] My Goal = To create original stories that are both entertaining and meaningful. Most of my work is fueled by an intense drive to inspire others to favor social/spiritual values over shallow values.
[x] Erotic Fiction is where I explore intimacy/passion/intensity, not explicitness ;)
[x] Psychological Thrillers are where I explore the dark side of human nature.
:: Longer Version ::
Hello, I’m Jess. I’m primarily a writer/novelist/poet.
I lived in Singapore for the first two decades of my life. Currently I’m in Maine, USA. Permanent location would be “in my head.”
I don’t like labels but the MBTI is fascinating; according to that, I’m an INFJ.
In mid-2009, I decided to publish my first two books myself (some stats on Book01′s history here), after realizing those works weren’t exactly commercially categorizable. My third (full-length) novel is a more mainstreamy project.
+ Genres I write in:
Other Genres: mainstream/literary fiction, experimental fiction, new media, paranormal/occult, GLBT, young adult fiction, multicultural fiction, speculative/fantasy, urban fantasy, offbeat fiction, non-fiction, short stories, poetry, Christian/inspirational fiction.
I’m committed to producing “authentic, original work, rather than the same old re-packaged mass-market pulp” (e-mail from a reader of my novella, New Order).
Dragonsinn (my dragon site) has been up for ten years, as of June 2009, woo-hoo!
deviantART (my artwork / inc. some book covers) — I started drawing in late 2003.
Improving Eyesight Naturally is my vision blog — as of May 2013 my myopia is around -4.00 (started off with -7.25).
[Books / Heroes]
Anything by: Edgar Allan Poe, Oscar Wilde, Shakespeare, Roald Dahl, George Orwell, Bret Easton Ellis, Anaïs Nin, Vladimir Nabokov, Leo Tolstoy, Ambrose Bierce (The Devil’s Dictionary!), John Keats, D. I also like to read everyday things like…food item labels.
Classical: Chopin, Vivaldi, Bach, Mozart, Yundi Li, Hilary Hahn, Nikolai Dimidenko, The Orpheus Chamber Orchestra.
Rock: Linkin Park, NIN, Stabbing Westward, Queen, The (full, 4-member) Smashing Pumpkins, Jimi Hendrix, Nirvana, Guns N’ Roses, Led Zep, INXS, The Who, The Rolling Stones, Judas Priest, The White Stripes, etc.
Other: Depeche Mode, New Order, The Culture Club, The Chemical Brothers, Gorillaz, Rufus Wainwright, Elvis Presley, Kylie Minogue, MOBY, Michael Jackson, Eminem, George Michael, Se7en, Bi Rain, Big Bang, etc.
I Want You by Savage Garden says everything about my approach to love/sex.
[TV Shows / Films]
Midsomer Murders, Law & Order, etc. Anything by Akira Kurosawa and James Cameron. Forrest Gump, Psycho, Amelie (French), Ong Bak (Thai), The King and the Clown (Korean), many more [those that combine artistry with mass appeal :)].
I studied Communications & Media Management, at Temasek Poly.
I hold an Associate in Arts degree from Adams State College, a liberal arts college. I completed a Bachelor’s degree at ASC (English/Business) in December 2010.
In 2009, I was a contributing editor to Bare Back Magazine, and I interned as a research assistant for the savvy and fierce journalist, Ms. Meredith Maran. I helped research and fact-check information for the 2010 Jossey-Bass/Wiley publication, MY LIE.
(1) Interviews: I’m currently featuring writers (all genres; published or not) via a concise Q&A (on my main blog), and/or a lengthier Q&A with regards to perspectives on erotic literature as an art form (on my 4:Play blog).
(2) Guest Posts: Do check the guest post topics if you’d like to contribute something too.
I’m available for guest posts, discussions, etc. Just drop me a note and I’ll get back to you asap :)
