Author Interview, Dee Marie

Author Interview #6, with Dee Marie!

Describe yourself in 5 words:

Gregarious, dedicated, eclectic, romantic, adventurer.

Share a short excerpt and blurb of your work (10-100 words):

He had only heard of dragons, and although he had never seen one, he was sure they existed. (Quote from Vortigern, “Sons of Avalon: Merlin’s Prophecy”)

Share an excerpt of your favorite author’s work (10-100 words):

“Do I dazzle you?” (Quote from Edward Cullen, “Twilight”)

Comment on the writing versus publication process, in your experience:

Writing a novel is exciting. Finishing a novel is exhilarating. Rewriting and editing can be both fun and frustrating. Publishing and promoting is time-consuming and takes away from the writing process.

However, meeting readers and getting their feedback is a humbling experience. I love to interact with my readers. When a reader tells me that my story kept them up late at night, or that it touched them emotionally…it makes all the long (and at times lonely hours) of writing worth while.

What is your definition of “good writing”?

Good writing keeps the reader up late at night, unable to put a novel down, having to read “just one more page or chapter.” Good writing keeps the reader addicted to the story.

Please share your #1 tip for writers:

Know the rules of grammar before you break them. Write tight and concise. Most importantly, if you are going to self-publish, I beg writers to study the formatting and layout of best selling novels. There is nothing that ruins great writing more than sloppy formatting.

  2. > Dee, you’re most welcome. And thank you for your interest in my writing — I’ve a bunch of essays to complete, and a slight blog overhaul to see to (gonna re-organize and tweak the navigation here, a little bit…).
